Reserve is joining the fight to end heart disease in February, in honor of Heart Awareness Month. All proceeds from our new, feature dessert — “I Heart (Drinking) Chocolate” — will benefit the American Heart Association, an organization that has reduced the number of deaths due to cardiovascular disease by 15% since February 2018.
Tell us about heart disease:
Prior to the formation of the American Heart Association (AHA) little research – if any – was done for those affected by heart disease. In fact, most were told bed rest was their only option. But a group of physicians and social workers was dedicated to finding other options. They formed the AHA in 1924 and immediately began conducting research to learn more about the disease.
Here are the current stats:
Heart disease is the #1 killer worldwide; stroke comes in at #2
116.4 million, or 46% of US adults, have hypertension
Someone dies from cardiovascular disease every 38 seconds
Someone dies from stroke every 3.7 minutes
However, thanks to the AHA and its dedicated physicians, researchers, and volunteers, total cardiovascular disease has decreased 15.1% and stroke is down 13.6% as of February 2018. Millions of people are enjoying longer, healthier lives due to discoveries funded by the AHA like the first implantable pacemaker, the first artificial heart valve, and cholesterol-lowering medication.
Our team is proud to partner with this organization in their work.
